Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary

"A Unique Baptist Seminary"

Unique Beginning:  On July 29th of 2009, the Heritage Baptist Church unanimously voted into existence, as a ministry of the local church, the Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary.  At present, the seminary verse is Deuteronomy 29:29, "The secret things belong unto the LORD our God:  but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."   The seminary was started upon Proverbs 16:9, "A man's heart deviseth his way:  but the LORD directeth his steps."  Understanding that God gives men the right to conceive their plans and plot their course, but at the same time being humble enough to allow the Lord to direct or order their steps in any endeavor which they choose, within the boundaries of the Scripture and God's present will.

Unique Purpose:  The Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary was formed as a ministry of the Heritage Baptist Church, believing that  1 Timothy 3:15, "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth," teaches that the New Testament local church is the only institution with authority to hold up the truth of the Scripture.  Therefore, the seminary is placed under the aegis of the local church.  As a result of the local church's controlling influence, the primary purpose of the seminary is to teach and hold up the truth of the Scripture, "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" (Matthew 28:20). Secondarily, the purpose of the seminary is to give pastors and students of the Bible an opportunity for advanced study of God's Words, "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." (2 Timothy 2:2).  Thirdly, the purpose of the seminary is to equip the soldiers of the faith with Scriptural truths, which, when allowed through the teaching of the Holy Spirit, will produce soldier leaders for the spriritual warfare in which the New Testament church finds itself, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." (2 Timothy 3:16,17).

Unique Ministry:  The Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary recognizes that its ministry is not for everyone.  First, it is an Independent, Biblicist, Baptist seminary; second, it is a Scripturally conservative seminary, believing that the manuscripts of the Masoretic Text and the Textus Receptus, from which the King James Version of the Bible is translated, are the preserved and inerrant words of God and rejects the Critical Text position; third, it is a local church seminary ministry in contradistinction to a para-church ministry, and stands in opposition to the teaching of the universal or true church position theory.  Fourth, it is a seminary that rejects all five points of Calvinism, believing that the "whosoever" may receive God's offer for an everlasting salvation through Jesus Christ His Son.

Unique Course of Study:  The Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary offers a unique course of study by utilizing a "module approach" to teaching.  This offers flexibility for teaching and for students.  The typical two semester hour module class is a program incorporating three hours a day for five days of classroom teaching, and a three-month period following the class to take the examination and complete the course requirements.  Also, there are occasionally three semester hour module classes incorporating five hours a day for five days of classroom teaching, and a three-month period following the class to take the examination and complete the course requirements.  This module program works well for pastors and men, who invite the seminary to come to their church for a week of seminary classes.  Our motto:  "The Seminary That Comes To You!"  This works extremely well for those serving in a local church and who are looking for advanced training in the Bible, but are unable to move their entire family and household.

The Seminary also offers an on campus module program for a week at a time.  This enables a pastor or student to drive in or fly in and take the module class being offered.  This time may be utilized as a time of refreshing or for the furthering of one's semester hours toward the next degree or both.  Travel from five different airports to the seminary is furnished:  Syracuse, NY, Binghamton, NY, Ithaca, NY, Elmira, NY, and Wilkes-Barre, PA.  At this time, providing housing for one's stay while attending a module class is under consideration.  Please check with us before making off-campus reservations - a room may be available.

Unique Course Offerings:
The seminary offers four degrees:  The Certificate of Theology (COT) - an 18 semester hour program; The Associate Bible Degree (ABD) - a 64 semester hour program; The Bachelor of Biblical Studies (BBS - a 128 semester hour program; The Master of Biblical Studies (MBS) - a 32 semester hour program above a Bachelor's Degree, and the Master of Divinity (MDiv) - a 96 semester hour program above a Bachelor's Degree; the Doctor of Ministry (DMin) - a 32 semester hour program above the Master of Divinity.
In the not so distant future, the seminary is anticipating adding the Doctor of Theology (ThD) - a 32 semester hour program above the Doctor of Ministry (DMin).

Unique Location:  The Seminary is located in a quiet rural setting in the beautiful hills of the Southern Tier, bordering the Susquehanna River in upstate New York - minutes from major stores and reasonable employment with low cost of living relative to other areas.

Unique Cost:  $100.00 per semester hour for each course; Registration - $30.00 (one time charge); $50.00 discount for all pastors.  The cost of the textbook is the student's responsibility.

Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary
(a ministry of Heritage Baptist Church)
                                                                                 Established 2009
By unanimous vote, on July 29, 2009, the Heritage Baptist Church in Endicott, New York voted into existence the Heritage Baptist Theological Seminary. The church recognizes this vote as giving birth to a new seminary in the northeast, but also recognizes that it must be the LORD that gives it life and directs its steps (Psalm 127:1; Proverbs 16:9). The seminary's purpose is to teach Biblical Truth to faithful men at an advanced level in order to propagate the Truths of God's Words with an eye on the next generation of God's servants (2 Timothy 2:2 and 15; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Deuteronomy 29:29).
Those who would feel the Lord leading them to help in this ministry may do so by giving gifts or supporting the Seminary. You may donate in one of three ways.  All donations should be given to the Heritage Baptist Church.  In the memo: 1) if you write, "seminary endowment", that money will go to an endowment fund for the seminary, which will only use the interest and capital gains for operational costs; 2) if you write, "seminary operations" that money will be used for operating costs of the seminary; and 3) if you write, only, "seminary", the money will be split between endowment and operations, as needed.
We look forward to updating you in the Heritage Herald from time to time on the progress of the Seminary. The church recognizes it must superintend the affairs of the seminary, but it also recognizes there must be patience put forth as we wait upon the Lord Jesus to give life, strength and direction. Pray for us as we embark upon this endeavor for the glory of God (Ephesians 3:21).
Caswell A. Reeves, Pastor
